What Is Counselling?

Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings in a confidential and dependable environment. I as a counsellor am trained to listen with empathy (by putting myself in your shoes). I can help you deal with any negative thoughts and feelings you have.

I provide a confidential, therapeutic relationship, a unique space where you can feel safe to discuss, explore and work through feelings and issues that are negatively affecting your life.

The benefits of counselling include a greater degree of self-awareness and understanding of yourself and others. This improves self-esteem, and becomes reflective in your personal relationships. Life feels more enjoyable and fun! You feel better about yourself and who you are.

 Counselling for depression

The following types of counselling and psychotherapy have been proven effective in treating depression:

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) which I specialise in.

According to guidelines issued by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), cognitive behavioural therapy is among the recommended therapies for treating depression. This therapy is based on the premise that the way we behave and think affects the way we feel. People who suffer from the condition tend to have self-defeating thoughts that can lead to negative behaviour. CBT aims to help them identify and address these negative thoughts

Relationship issues

Relationships are a very meaningful part of our lives, and can bring us a great deal of happiness and fulfilment. Strong connections with our loved ones, friends and work colleagues allow us to be at our healthiest and most productive, and for many these relationships offer an important source of advice, guidance, love and support

Whatever the relationship issue, I can help in the form of relationship counselling. In this setting I as a counsellor will work with couples or individuals to explore their needs and what they want from their relationships, while offering support and advice to help them get their relationship(s) back on track if this is what all parties want.
